First major cruise on a RV
First cruise for me, (almost) last for the vessel
When: 08.07. - 20.07.2014
Where: From Durban, South Africa to Port Louis, Mauritius.
After finishing my Bachelor, I joined the SPACES/OASIS cruise on the RV Sonne (SO234-2) from Durban (ZA) to Port Louis (MU).
The cruise was a training cruise where we investigated chemical and physical interactions between the ocean surface and the atmosphere.
During the two weeks at sea, we measued trace gas concentration, nutrients, DNA, and pigments for phytoplankton species composition in sea water and deployed ozone and radio sondes.
While this was the fist major trip on a research vessel for me (> 1 week), it was also one of the last cruises for the vessel: the RV Sonne would only have one more cruise before being taken out of service.
